PERJURIES OF THE HEART
(320-page hardback/PG-17 fiction)
Kelly’s idyllic new life of practicing law in Dallas and riding cutting horses in Pleasant Pass is frequently and sharply interrupted as the president’s White House minions wage an undeclared war against her. PERJURIES OF THE HEART completes (or introduces) the Heart Trilogy with scenes never reported on the front pages. Although Kelly and Cameron’s love story began innocently enough in a small southern town when they were children, it became an affair that lasted for decades during which he married a power-hungry lawyer who later clutched his coattails on his way to the White House. Kelly is exploring a new relationship that holds promise as well as perils, but the secret about Cameron that she revealed in her first novel draws Kelly unwillingly from her life and love in Texas to the political fray in Washington. Cameron is impeached for lying under oath and obstructing justice; Kelly has damning proof.

I dedicate this book to survivors of sexual abuse and rape.
Please do not assume from this dedication statement that the following novel contains sex scenes and violence. It does not.
Rather, I have sought to convey in a more subtle way the long-lasting, insidious consequences of these all-too-common crimes against human beings of any age and gender.
Statistics tell us that at least one in five women in the United States has suffered from sexual abuse. As Mark Twain said, “There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.” I believe that the incidences of sexual abuse and rape are significantly greater than reported, even in today’s ostensibly open society. Sex crimes are still covered up in homes, schools, day-care centers, churches, camps, offices, and other places that should be safe.
It is a sad commentary on American society that a prominent politician used and abused countless women over the course of many decades, but escape unscathed. Enabled by his self-serving, co-dependent spouse and his sniveling sycophants, he exacerbated a sex abuse problem that is rampant and growing.
When a sexual abuser is allowed to persecute and further abuse his victims with public scorn, humiliation, and ridicule (especially when those attacks are supported by complicit media personalities), that abuser adds to the untold numbers of violated people who will remain afraid to report sex crimes.
If you have been sexually violated and still feel more like a victim than a survivor, please seek help, no matter how long it has been since the degrading incident. Without treatment, you may (subconsciously) carry the physical, mental and spiritual consequences of those crimes for a lifetime.
I speak from experience. ~ Dolly
